Henry Maunakea

Henry Maunakea, a true Hawaiian Christian, a tireless leader, and visionary, was passionate in his service to the Hawaiian Christian Community. God called him at a young age to be at the forefront of creating paths for the growth of Hawaiian churches. He saw the need for pastors to serve and leaders to lead Hawaiian congregations that were often overlooked.

His faith in God’s mission remained paramount throughout his life and remained faithful to his work until the Lord called him home. This mission remains strong in both his family and wife, Marion Leimomi Maunakea. He was truly God’s faithful servant.

Trevor and Jan Maunakea

Trevor Hanale Keli'ilanakilaokamaluokalani Maunakea, serves as President of Maunakea Integrated Solutions LLC, an office technology provider in the state of Hawai'i.

He was born and raised in a Christian Hawaiian home and influenced by parents who faithfully served Kaumakapili Church. His path was being developed and strengthened as his love for the Lord grew. As a young man he traveled the South Pacific participating in many different cultural exchanges all while remaining rooted in the Christian faith. It was during this time that he heard the call to serve Christ with an emphasis on his identity of being Hawaiian.

His passion for music was instilled in him from a young age. Being around a family that sang together both songs of Hawai'i and songs for Christ influenced him in a positive way. As a member of the Honolulu Boy Choir, he grew to appreciate choral music, chant, and dance. Furthermore, he was a member of the Kamehameha Schools Concert Glee Club in high school which gave him the opportunity to travel the pacific and add to his understanding of the Hawaiian renaissance. After graduating with the Centennial class of 1987 from Kamehameha, he found himself a part of a local Hawaiian group called Kawaiola which released two CDs and enjoyed many years of singing together.

As he grew up in Kaumakapili Church, his faith deepened, and prompted him to serve in several positions of leadership, such as Sunday School teacher, youth leader, worship leader, deacon, and Vice President. In 2003, he served as President during the renovation of the church sanctuary leading the congregation through a major project.

His love for Christ and his fervor for lifting up the Hawaiian people moved him from continued service in his local church to serving in positions at the Hawai'i Conference United Church of Christ and the Association of Hawaiian Evangelical Churches.

His wife Jan (Lakalo) Maunakea has supported him through his endeavors. Together they have five children: Cyrus, Marcus, Cydnee, MarQee, and Titus.  Trevor and Jan now pour their lives into lifting up the next generation of leaders.  That call has given birth to the vision of The Henry Maunakea Center for Discernment and Church Development to ensure that Hawaiian churches like that one that he grew up in remains a beacon of light for the Hawai'i of the future.  He hopes that the host culture that surrounded him and embraced him is embedded in churches like the one that saved him. It is the call that has inspired him to set forth an innovative way to integrate culture and faith to elevate a people through the love of Christ.
